The partnership

Blok Design Group produces timepiece imagery for many of the world’s leading luxury houses and retailers. We understand the intense attention to detail that fine watch photography requires, with fractions of a millimetre in question.

A watch buyer or collector is convinced by details others might miss — and increasingly the first place they look is online, where the imagery must be worthy and representative of the craft behind the timepiece.

The brief

Timepiece houses and retailers need every watch’s precise detail presented to the most exacting standards. A watch is a small object that must carry a high-impact image alone. Every component and finish responds differently to light, compounded by the crystal covering the watch face reflecting everything in the studio.

Our approach

We build each shoot and post-production colour brief around the watch itself, based on its finish, proportions and its manufacturer’s brand style guide and goals.

Light that respects the finishing

When we shoot pieces created by brands like Rolex, lighting the distinction between a polished bevel and a brushed surface is key. Our watch lighting techniques showcase all finishes, so the item arrives on screen exactly as it left the workshop.

The unobstructed dial

The sapphire crystal is a mirror sitting over the very thing the image exists to show. We control glare and reflection without flattening the dial’s depth — and because sunburst and lacquered dials shift with every angle of light, colour is verified against the piece itself, never a reference file.

Consistency across the collection

Our Rolex shoots have taught us that consistency matters as much as any single frame. The same angle, the same hand position, the same shadow and the same tones ensure an entire catalogue reads as one body of work.

Precision at macro scale

Bezel engraving, date apertures and dial text demand extreme sharpness. We work at macro precision and our retouchers remove dust and micro-marks without ever infringing on the character of the watch.
